2 Things An AC Repair Contractor Will Check When Repairing Your AC

When your air conditioner stops working, the first person you want to call is a service tech from an HVAC contractor. You want someone to come out to your house as soon as possible so that you can get your nice cool air back. Without your AC, no matter what you try to do to keep your house cool, it just isn't going to work. It will be cooler than it is outside, but not necessarily a lot. What are some of the things that the problem with your air conditioner could be?

Blowing Warm Air

If your air conditioner is blowing out warm or even hot air, there are a couple of things that the problem could be. One problem could be that the filters in your air conditioner are blocked. Blocked and dirty filters can make it hard for the air conditioner to get cold air from the unit into your house. The service tech will take the filters out and either replace them or clean them out. If that doesn't get cold air in your house, the problem may be something else. It could be that you have a coolant leak somewhere in the system. The coolant will absorb the heat of the house and then run through the evaporator coil, where it is turned to gas and sheds that heat. The coolant system is supposed to be a closed system. That means that there should be the same amount of coolant in the system at all times. But, if you have a leak somewhere in the system, the unit will not have enough coolant to cool everything down.

Noisy Unit

If your air conditioner is noisy, there's a problem. When your air conditioner is running normally, you may hear a hum from the unit or the fan, but you shouldn't hear more than that. If your AC sounds like it is fighting a raging battle to cool your house, the fact is that it is most likely fighting hard to cool your house. The sounds could be something as simple as an air filter that is loose and rattles whenever the unit turns on. However, it could also be something much more problematic, like the compressor going out. Make sure you can tell the service tech what the noise sounds like.

If your air conditioner isn't working, you may dread going home because there just isn't going to be any cool air. But, you can call an air conditioning contractor to come out to your house to check your unit so you can be cool again.
