4 Summer AC Tips to Keep You Cool

The last thing that you want during the summertime is for your air conditioner to go out or to not be running at optimal levels. Air conditioners work hard during the summer, and there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that they keep working hard, don't fail and will provide you with the cold air that you need.

Change Your AC Filter

When your air conditioner's filter starts to get clogged and dirty, it can lead to an inefficient air conditioner, with not enough cold air being created and circulated in your home. This is because the dirt and debris that accumulates on the filter will block the airflow, which in turn causes your air conditioning unit to start to work harder. Change your filter at the beginning of your AC season for best results.

Schedule Maintenance

Before you turn your AC on for the first of the season, call in a professional HVAC company to maintain your AC. They will look your unit over to ensure that everything is in the right place, turn your AC unit on and check to see if it's working properly and repair any problems that they find.

Ensure There is Room

In order to operate the most efficiently, your air conditioning unit needs proper clearance on all sides. Things like bushes, plants and trees can block the airflow, making your AC unit have to work overtime. Before you power on your AC, make sure that any bushes or plants on the side of the unit are trimmed away. If you have bushes planted too close to your unit, think of having them moved. Any low hanging trees that might block the airflow on top of the unit should also be trimmed.

Use a Dehumidifier

The humidity in your home can make it feel a lot hotter than it actually is, sending you to the thermostat to lower the temperature. Instead of doing that, which will cost you more money on energy bills and cause your air conditioning unit to have to work harder, invest in a dehumidifier for the main rooms of your house. This will help your home feel like a more comfortable temperature without having to turn your thermostat down.

If you are having issues with your AC unit, call in an AC repair company like Daniel's Heating Air & Plumbing Inc. They will be able to diagnose and fix the problem and get your house cooled down again.
